These courses are those which are preparatory to the function of the job technology chosen by the student and which are specific to his or her major career choice.

IMAGE ESSENTIALS B102

The Look: Personal and professional image development. Ideas and discoveries in personal and professional image, style, and fashion development. Introduction to modeling.

BASIC COLOR THEORY B110
An introductory study of a color use and application in the industry based upon Pantone theory of customer message, customer attraction, product message, and product marketability. The use of Pantone Theory is reinforced by weekly assignments which employ basic principles of color to manipulate and control color according to the demands of a client.

ANATOMY AND FIGURE DRAWING I B125
Prerequisite: Portfolio Review or X050
An analysis of the human skeleton which coordinates theoretical knowledge of particular bone anatomy with the life model. The emphasis of skeletal analysis to resolve figurative construction and its complexities. An application of descriptive drawing techniques to describe the human form.

ANATOMY AND FIGURE DRAWING II B126
Prerequisite: B125
The refinement and advancement of anatomical knowledge developed in B125. An exploration of the human muscular form as a mechanical device which enables descriptive and accurate drawing as well as aesthetic definition. The development of muscular analysis to understand accuracy and purpose of line/shading placement.

ANATOMY AND FIGURE DRAWING FOR INTERIOR DESIGN B127
Prerequisite: X050 or Portfolio Review
AAn analysis of the human skeleton which coordinates theoretical knowledge of particular bone anatomy with the life model. The emphasis of skeletal analysis to resolve figurative construction and its complexities. The development of drawing aesthetics and proportion awareness and the application of figure drawing to represent scale and size of room interiors.

BUSINESS LAW B210
Basic laws that apply to contract sales, negotiable instruments and product liability, particularly relevant to the fashion industry.

FASHION SHOW PRODUCTION B214
Prerequisite: B102 and must have 2nd year standing
Study of fashion shows as an element of sales promotion, fashion show themes, budgets, schedules and rehearsals of fashions shows, culminating in actual production and presentation of a fashion show.

SALESMANSHIP B225
Techniques in selling goods and services. Development of persuasive and creative selling approaches. Overcoming objections, closing sales, market research, and marketing communications.

PHOTOGRAPHY I B244
An introductory course in the use of the 35 millimeter SLR camera, giving the students an awareness tool for photography as an art form through manipulation of a variety of techniques. Introduction to basic fundamentals and concepts along with techniques involved in black and white, and color photography.

PHOTOGRAPHY II/DARKROOM B245
Prerequisite: B244
Creative darkroom techniques will be utilized to create art. Concepts learned in B244 will expand to film processing procedures and print making. Special effects will be used to improve prints.

CAREER PREPARATION B253
Prerequisite: Seventh or eighth quarter standing.
Designed to help students overcome the major hurdles in the transition from school to work by filling out job applications, writing appropriate resumes, and conducting oneself at the job interview.

INTERNSHIP REVIEW B254
To be taken with Internship
Student internship activities are monitored through teacher and coordinator visits and evaluations. Weekly meetings with the teacher and the coordinator are required to review the ongoing internship experience. A journal is kept to document the studentÕs experience.

SMALL BUSINESS/ENTREPRENEUR MANAGEMENT B270
The operation and formation of small retail business enterprises. Emphasis is towards managerial functions for development of business plans, merchandising (particularly boutique development), establishing and maintaining relationships with clients, suppliers and the general public,
and trend analysis.

HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURAL INTERIORS I BID115
The history of architectural interiors from ancient Egypt through the Renaissance.

HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURAL INTERIORS II BID116
Study of the architectural interiors from the return to classicism (Neoclassicism) to the present, with emphasis on the history of modern design.

INTRODUCTION TO INTERIOR DESIGN BID151
A survey of Interior Design. Who does it, who pays for it, how it is carried out, and where it is headed? This is an overview of the profession, which touches on every aspect of an Interior Design career.

ENGLISH G101
A 10-week journey that explores 9 essay styles, reviews grammar and MLA style, and improves both verbal and non-verbal communication skills

ENGLISH II G102
Prerequisite: G101
Emphasizes reading and discussing short stories, poetry, and a novella.

MATH I G141
This course provides the students with a basic foundation in the fundamentals of math. Included are the use of fractions, decimals, percentages, statistics, simple business and consumer math, the metric system, and simple geometry.

MATH II G142
Prerequisite: G141
This course provides the students with a continuation of the building block for a strong foundation in math.

HISTORY OF ART I G160
Historical analysis of human artistic development in architecture, sculpture, and painting from Prehistoric through the Gothic time periods.

HISTORY OF ART II G161
Historical analysis of human artistic development in architecture, sculpture, and painting from the Early Renaissance through the Post Modern time periods.

HISTORY OF THE OLD TESTAMENT G163
The study of Patriarchs and Major and Minor Prophets from Genesis to Malachi and the history surrounding them. Can be taken in lieu of History of Art I.

HISTORY OF THE NEW TESTAMENT G164
The study of the writers of the New Testament from Matthew to the Apocalypse and the recorded events of history surrounding them. Can be taken in lieu of History of Art II.

SOCIAL SCIENCE I - INTERPERSONAL BEHAVIOR G221
This course is an introduction to the theory and practice of interpersonal communication. The focus of the course is on learning and practicing the skills needed to improve the quality of interpersonal communication and interpersonal relationships. The end result should be an improved ability to communicate more effectively with a variety of people.

SOCIAL SCIENCE II - ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR G222
This course provides an overview of classic and current trends in organizational communication and relevant human interpersonal relationships in the work environment. Individual and group concepts, as they relate to real-world situations, will be the basis for most of the material covered.

ECONOMICS G260
This course is designed to examine the basic concepts of economics and their applications to economic problems and policies of our economic systems: supply and demand, market and prices, income distribution, allocation of resources, and contemporary economic issues.

DEVELOPMENTAL COURSES

No credits are given toward degree/certificate for developmental courses. There is no letter grade earned, developmental courses are PASS/FAIL. There is a two-credit tuition charge for each, except for X018 Developmental Sewing which has a three credit tuition charge.

DEVELOPMENTAL ENGLISH X010
Detailed review of fundamentals of grammar and essentials of good usage. Expository writing, emphasis on drill and in-class exercises. Course designed as a preparatory to, but in no way a replacement for G101. Two hours of instruction per week. Placement in this course is dependent on results of entrance exam.

DEVELOPMENTAL READING X015
A course for college-level students, designed to improve comprehension and ability to remember what has been read. Emphasis on strengthening reading, thinking, dictionary and speed-reading skills. Placement in this course dependent on results of entrance exam.

DEVELOPMENTAL SEWING X018
This is a basic sewing course for students who have minimal or no sewing experience. It covers the use of the sewing machine, practice in sewing skills and commercial pattern layout.

DEVELOPMENTAL MATHEMATICS X020
Basic skill and understanding of simple arithmetic. Emphasis on drill and in-class writing exercises of arithmetic problems. Course structured as preparatory to, but in no way a substitute for, G141. Two hours of instruction per week. Placement in this course is dependent on results of entrance exam.

INTRO TO COMPUTERS X040
Must be taken first quarter. A study and application of basic terminology, software and procedures using Windows programs.

ART FUNDAMENTALS X050
A study of the basic principles in the mechanics of drawing. An in-depth exploration concerning theoretical and practical approaches of perspective in application to drawing simple and complex forms. Fundamental techniques of different mediums to create realism through shading and value placement.
