An interior designer identifies,
researches, and creatively solves problems pertaining
to the function and quality of an interior environment. The
designer must always be sensitive to the client's needs;
be able to communicate ideas visually as well as orally;
make cost estimates and be familiar with technology as
a tool for design and business management.
VMCAD students are constantly challenged to develop critical
thinking, conceptualization, and spatial visualization
abilities - skills necessary in the understanding of
the interior environment.
The professional Interior Designer must have the ability
to both manipulate three-dimensional space (design) and
to create a pleasing environment in that space. This
program teaches the basic processes of design and enables
them to function as a professional in the field of Interior
Design. This is achieved through a series of studio classes
taught by practicing professionals, in which
the students learn the techniques required and the theory
necessary to fulfill a useful position in any design
concern.
